In this 16 slide PowerPoint lesson, Stuart Hall's Audience Reception theory is introduced using a (slightly rude!) mnemonic. The theory is then applied to the Lynx Find Your Magic TV commercial (YouTube link provided within the PowerPoint). Screenshots of the ad appear alongside suggested notes related to the preferred, oppositional and negotiated readings of the ad. A PowerPoint mock exam and past paper questions (Word doc) for the WJEC GCSE Media News Exam (Section B - Radio News). The PowerPoint gives step by step advice on what to include for each question, as well as suggested answers, with the students encouraged to take notes. Then the students use the notes to have a go at the exam. This is ideal for a two hour lesson, with 15 minutes prep for each question, then 15 minutes to answer it. This has been used with my two year 11 exam groups, with the questions based on previous exams. You also receive a word document containing the actual exam questions from 2014 to 2016, with predictions on what will come up this year based on these past papers.
